CFA Society Toronto Announces Election of New Board Members

Toronto, ON - 30 June 2017 - CFA Society Toronto is pleased to announce Pamela Steer, CFA has been appointed Board Chair following Tuesday’s election meeting. 

“I’m honoured to be elected the new chair of CFA Society Toronto,” said Pamela Steer. “Over the next year, my focus will be delivering member value, enhancing public trust in CFA charterholders and looking at how we can partner with other professional bodies to strengthen the financial services industry.”

The Board of Directors provides the Society with strategic leadership for carrying out our mission and vision in enhancing the investment profession by providing a local perspective on a global designation.

In addition, Vadim Gracie, FCSI, CFA as has been appointed Vice Chair, and Daniel Lavallee, CFA as Past-Chair. We would also like to welcomes four new members to the Board of Directors.

Steven Balaban, CFA – Chair, Outreach
Steve Balaban, CFA, is the Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Mink Capital, a private equity solution for family offices. Mr. Balaban is an adjunct professor at the University of Waterloo where he created a course titled Private Equity and Venture Capital. In addition, he teaches at Wilfrid Laurier University, in the MBA/MFin program, where he lectures on Investment Management and Advanced Corporate Finance.

Mr. Balaban received a Bachelor of Mathematics from the University of Waterloo, graduating on the Dean’s list, and received an Honours, Bachelor of Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier University. Mr. Balaban has extensive international experience having worked, studied and visited over seventy countries in every continent in the world.

Mr. Balaban was senior adviser to the 2016 Research Challenge Global Award winners and currently serves on the Society’s Mentorship and University Relations Committees.

Jennifer R. Schillaci, CFA – Chair, Member Services  
Jennifer Schillaci is Managing Director and Senior Portfolio Manager at Manulife Real Estate. She is responsible for the ongoing investment strategy and portfolio management, including acquisitions, dispositions and financing, of both the Manulife Canadian Property Portfolio and the Manulife Canadian Real Estate Investment Fund.

Previously, Ms. Schillaci was an Investment Director with Manulife Real Estate, the global real estate investment and management arm of Manulife, where she was responsible for the successful execution of acquisition targets, as well as the disposition of non-core assets and the monitoring and analysis of the Company’s real estate investment performance. Prior to this role, she held various investment positions across several asset classes within in both Toronto and Boston. Jennifer is a graduate of the University of Toronto where she earned a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons.) degree and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. Ms. Schillaci is a past chair of the Society’s Membership Committee.

Christopher Sheridan, MBA, CFA – Board Member at Large
Chris Sheridan is a Vice President in Client Coverage at MSCI Inc, a leading provider of investment management tools. He has over 16 years of experience in capital markets. Prior to joining MSCI, Mr. Sheridan was Senior Vice President, Institutional Sales for a Canadian exchange-traded funds provider. Previously, Mr. Sheridan provided equity sales coverage to institutional money managers for a Canadian bank-owned investment dealer and prior to that, he was an Equity Research Analyst for a boutique investment dealer.

Mr. Sheridan holds a BA in psychology from Western University, an MBA from the Schulich School of Business, York University, and is a CFA charterholder. Mr. Sheridan has been a volunteer at CFA Society Toronto since 2012 and is Past-Chair of the Equity Programming Committee.

Camilla Sutton, MBA, CFA – Board Member at Large
In her most recent role, Camilla Sutton was Scotiabank’s Global Head of Foreign Exchange, responsible for the firm’s FX trading desks, electronic trading and distribution, sales teams, and the global client strategy. In this capacity she had responsibility for 20 global trading desks and 180 front office professionals. Prior to this role, Ms. Sutton was Scotiabank’s Chief FX Strategist. Earlier in her career, she was part of Portfolio Management at OMERS and Equity Research at BMO. Ms. Sutton holds a BA from Dalhousie and an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business. In addition, she is a CMT and CFA charterholder. She is an active member of the global investment community, having been a member of several CFA Society Toronto and Women in Capital Markets committees. Ms. Sutton is a member of the Bank of Canada's Foreign Exchange Committee.
