Chair

Vadim Gracie, FCSI, CFA is Vice President, Investment Risk Management at OMERS.  Previously he was a Principal in Risk Management and Principal in Asset Mix and Capital Markets Research at OMERS Capital Markets.  Before joining OMERS in 2007 he was a senior manager at Scotiabank.  Vadim has over 20 years of experience in the financial industry.  Vadim became Vice Chair of the Society's Derivatives & Risk Management Committee in 2011 and Chair of the Risk Management and Alternative Investments Committee in 2013. He is also a past volunteer on the Membership Committee. Vadim attained his Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 2002 and became a Fellow of Canadian Securities Institute in 2007.

Robert Cultraro, CFA

Vice Chair

Robert is the Chief Investment and Pension Officer at Hydro One Inc. Robert’s expertise is in strategic decision-making, managing a team of investment professionals and managers, strategic and tactical asset mix management, the selection and monitoring of investments, governance and risk management. Robert has over twenty years of extensive experience in the investment industry, which includes working collaboratively with Boards, investment research and analysis, investment advising and managing investment portfolios.

Robert is a CFA Charterholder and holds various industry credentials including Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst and the Certified Investment Manager designations. Robert is professionally affiliated with CFA Institute, the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst Association, a Fellow of the Public Guardian and Trustee, a member of the Board of Directors for the Pension investment Association of Canada and is a member and Past Chair of its Investment Practice Committee. Additionally, Robert is a Senior Advisor to CFA Society Toronto’s Institutional Asset Management Committee,

Pamela Steer, FCPA, FCA, CFA

Past Chair

Pamela Steer, FCPA, FCA, CFA is the Chief Financial Officer and Head of Finance and Employer Services at the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB). Pamela is also Treasurer of the Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors and sits on the Advisory Board of the University of Waterloo’s School of Accounting and Finance. Pamela was recently appointed to the Global Advisory Council for the Accounting for Sustainability Project under The Prince of Wales’s Charitable Foundation. 
Brenda King

Brenda King, CPA, CA, CFA

Secretary-Treasurer

Brenda King, CPA, CA, CFA has been the Treasurer at the Hospital for Sick Children for over fifteen years and is responsible for the treasury management, investments, banking relations, pension plan administration, and financial reporting.  Prior experience includes two years at a Real Estate Investment Management firm, seven years at McGill University, Department of Pension Management and five years at Deloitte & Touche as Audit Manager. Ms. King holds a Graduate Degree in Public Accountancy from McGill University and Bachelor of Commerce from Concordia University. Ms. King is a member of the Audit Committee, past Secretary-Treasurer and past Chair of the Finance Committee at the Society.

Grace Cleary-Yu, CFA

Chair, Member Services

Grace Cleary-Yu is a Client Portfolio Manager for Guardian Capital Advisors LP (GCA). She Joined GCA in 2017 in this role and is focused on bringing GCA’s private wealth philosophy and process to her clients. In addition, she will lead the bilingual and bicultural private wealth platform for the growing Chinese investor needs.

Grace brings over ten years of institutional investment experience. Grace’s career in the financial services industry began in 20016, when she joined Halifax Regional Municipality Pension Plan, assisting both the CEO and CIO in various aspects of the plan’s investment and governance as an Investment Analyst. Directly prior to joining GCA, Grace was responsible for institutional consultant relations for PIMCO Canada, after spending several years in the areas of equity, fixed income and alternatives at Fidelity Canada in both product management and development capacities, meeting both institutional and individual investors’ needs.

Steve Balaban, CFA

Chair, Outreach

Steve Balaban, CFA, is the Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Mink Capital, a private equity solution for family offices.  Mr. Balaban is an adjunct professor at the University of Waterloo where he created a course titled Private Equity and Venture Capital. In addition, he teaches at Wilfrid Laurier University, in the MBA/MFin program, where he lectures on Investment Management and Advanced Corporate Finance. 

Mr. Balaban received a Bachelor of Mathematics from the University of Waterloo, graduating on the Dean’s list, and received an Honours, Bachelor of Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier University. Mr. Balaban has extensive international experience having worked, studied and visited over seventy countries in every continent in the world.

Mr. Balaban was senior adviser to the 2016 Research Challenge Global Award winners and currently serves on the Society’s Mentorship and University Relations Committees.

Kathrin Forrest, CFA

Chair, Programming

Kathrin Forrest is the Portfolio Manager for Sun Life Global Investments. Kathrin’s responsibilities include managing the firm’s investment solutions. Prior to joining Sun Life Global Investments, she was the Assistant Vice President, Product and Strategy at Sun Life Investment Management. In this role, she oversaw all aspects of the product development process across Sun Life Investment Management’s group of institutional investment management companies.

Kathrin’s previous experience includes her role as Assistance Vice President, Investment Consulting, helping to build out Sun Life’s International Investment Centre and overseeing consulting, product and asset allocation functions. Kathrin originally joined Sun Life in 2004 as an Investment Analyst within the firm’s Group Retirement Services division.

Paul Hamilton, CFA

Paul joined Beutel Goodman in 2007 and has over 20 years of investment industry experience. He leads the managed assets team and is responsible for client service, marketing and business development activities for Beutel Goodman’s separately-managed account and mutual fund strategies across the central region of Canada. Prior to joining Beutel Goodman, Paul worked at Laketon Investment Management as Vice President of Managed Accounts. Paul is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario and is a Chartered Financial Analyst charterholder.

Andrew Auerbach, CFA

Andrew is responsible for leading BMO Wealth Management’s full-service investment advisory and private banking businesses for Canada and Asia and has extensive experience in both the wealth and retail businesses. Andrew is a member of the Board of Directors for BMO Nesbitt Burns Inc., BMO Nesbitt Burns Holdings Corporation, BMO Private Investment Counsel Inc., BMO Trust Company and BMO Investorline Inc. He is also a member of the United Way Major Individual Giving Cabinet and holds membership in the Financial Planning Standards Council. He is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School and has a B.A. from York University and is a Certified Financial Planner and CFA Charterholder.

Chris Sheridan, MBA, CFA

Board Member at Large

Chris Sheridan MBA, CFA is the Vice President in Client Coverage at MSCI Inc, a leading provider of investment management tools. He has over 16 years of experience in capital markets. Prior to joining MSCI, Mr. Sheridan was Senior Vice President, Institutional Sales for a Canadian exchange-traded funds provider. Previously, Mr. Sheridan provided equity sales coverage to institutional money managers for a Canadian bank-owned investment dealer and prior to that, he was an Equity Research Analyst for a boutique investment dealer.

Mr. Sheridan holds a BA in psychology from Western University, an MBA from the Schulich School of Business, York University, and is a CFA charterholder. Mr. Sheridan has been a volunteer at the Society since 2012 and is Past-Chair of the Equity Programming Committee.

Mari Jensen, CFA

Board Member at Large

Mari has over 25 years of progressive experience in capital markets and banking at Scotiabank. Most recently, as a senior member of Scotiabank Global Banking & Markets Institutional Foreign Exchange Sales team, she provided FX coverage to investment managers in North America. Prior to Global Banking & Markets, Mari spent four years in wealth management at Scotiabank, most recently in Institutional Sales. Mari has been an active volunteer for Women in Capital Markets (WCM) since 2008 and served on the Board of Directors of WCM from 2011 to 2019, including terms as Secretary, Vice Chair, and Chair. Her leadership and dedication to WCM were recognized as the 2013 recipient of the WCM Rising Star Award. Mari completed her MBA in Global Asset and Wealth Management from Simon Fraser University (Vancouver) in 2004 and holds a BBA in Finance, also from SFU. She holds the Chartered Market Technician and Chartered Financial Analyst designations.

Camilla Sutton, MBA, CFA

Camilla Sutton is the President and CEO of Women in Capital Markets (WCM), a national not-for-profit that aims to accelerate gender diversity across financial services. To achieve this, she is focused on building the talent pipeline of women, working towards transforming trade-floor cultures and advocating for change. Camilla's career spans more than two decades in capital markets, most recently as Scotiabank’s Global Head of Foreign Exchange, responsible for the firm’s FX trading desks, electronic trading and distribution, sales teams, and the global strategy. Prior to this role, she was Scotiabank’s Chief FX Strategist, providing global macro commentary and advisory services across the firm’s client base. Earlier in her career, she was part of Portfolio Management at OMERS and Equity Research at BMO Capital Markets. Camilla holds a BA from Dalhousie University and an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business. In addition, she is a CMT and CFA charterholder. She is an active member of the global investment community and was previously a member of the Bank of Canada’s Foreign Exchange Committee. In addition she sits on the 30% Club’s Steering Committee for Canada and is also a member of several committees within the United Way and CFA Society Toronto.

Sue Lemon, CFA

CEO and Board Member

Sue Lemon, CFA is the Society’s Chief Executive Officer and leads the Society’s strategic direction which includes promoting high ethical standards in the financial industry and increasing the visibility of the charter with key partners in the financial community. An experienced and successful investment executive in fixed income markets Sue formed MSL Advisory Corp in 2008.

Through-out her career Sue has held progressively senior roles at Canada Trust, CT Investment Counsel, Nesbitt Thomson, and CIBC World Markets. Sue led her team at CIBC to a #1 ranking in the Greenwich sales survey. Sue is a Past President of the Society and has been an active volunteer for the past 20 years, notably mentoring young industry professionals. Sue is a cum laude graduate of Ryerson Business Management and earned her charter in 1989.
