Fellowship Award



Submit your doctoral dissertation proposal for a chance to win a $5,000 (CAD) award and be recognized at CFA Society Toronto's Annual Awards Reception.  The winner will also be acknowledged in the Society's quarterly publication, The Analyst.


  • Must be a doctoral candidate at a Canadian university.
  • Dissertation proposal must be approved by the university but the final dissertation has not been defended.
  • Work must be in English, unpublished, and cannot currently be accepted for publication.
Evaluation Criteria

Dissertation proposals will be judged on their potential to add to the body of knowledge in the following areas of Canadian finance:
  • Debt;
  • Equities;
  • Derivatives,
  • Alternative Investments; and
  • other markets.
With particular emphasis on: 
  • Regulation;
  • Accounting;
  • Corporate Governance;
  • Taxation;
  • Applied Securities Valuation;
  • Portfolio Management;
  • Behavioral Finance; and
  • Performance Attribution.

All of these submission materials must be included to complete your online application:

  1. Application form (access form by clicking on "Apply Now")

  2. A letter from your supervisor indicating that the dissertation proposal has been defended, but its thesis has not yet been defended (for an example click here - upload letter in online application form)

  3. Dissertation proposal (upload in online application form)

Finalists will be subject to a telephone interview with judging panel in January 2019.
CFA Society Toronto reserves the right not to grant an award in a given year.
