2023-2024 Undergraduate Finance & Economics Awards
Overview
This award recognizes third and fourth year undergraduate finance or economic students in Ontario who have demonstrated excellence in academics and extracurricular activities. Applicants may submit an essay for one of our three awards. No prior knowledge or experience with the CFA designation is required but being enrolled in the CFA Program will be considered a plus. Finalists will be subject to an interview with a judging panel.
Please note, it is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure all application materials have been submitted by the deadline date. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. CFA Society Toronto reserves the right not to grant an award in a given year.
Applications have closed for the 2023/2024 school year.
Reward
First Place $3,000 CAD, Second Place $2,000 CAD, Third Place $1,000 CAD.
Prize money can be used at the winners’ discretion. In addition to receiving a monetary prize, winners will also be recognized at the CFA Society Toronto Annual Awards Reception, acknowledged in The Analyst publication, our website and social media channels.
Please note, this award is tax deductible and we are required to collect the necessary documents in order to process payment.
Eligibility
To be eligible for this award, applicants must meet the following criteria.

Currently enrolled in a third- or fourth-year finance or economics program at an Ontario university
- Possesses a minimum 3.0 GPA (or equivalent)
- Is able to submit an application in English
- CFA Candidate ID will be considered a plus
- If applying for a fourth-year award: hasn’t previously won a third-year award

- 500 word essay on why they should be selected for this award
- Full unofficial transcript of the applicant’s first- and second-year grades for third year applicants and also third year grades for fourth year applicants
Judging Criteria
All submitted materials will be reviewed by a panel of relevant professionals selected by CFA Society Toronto. All materials will be graded based on the relevance of experience to finance and/or economics, clarity of communication, and ability to thoughtfully explain how the candidate's education, school/professional experience, volunteering, and other activities play a role in their current/future goals and career plans.
