Marcus Turner, CFA - Chair

Marcus Turner is an Investment Principal at Morneau Shepell in their Toronto office.  He consults on a wide variety of asset issues including asset allocation strategy, manager structure issues such as currency management, the use of alternative investments and building the right combination of managers. He works with a variety of clients ranging from $100 million in assets to over $2 billion.  Prior to joining Morneau Sheppell, Marcus was a senior investment consultant at a multi-national firm for over eight years.  Prior to consulting he worked for more than 12 years in the Financial Risk and Capital Markets group of a large financial institution. Marcus graduated from the University of Toronto majoring in Economics and Actuarial Science. He is a CFA charterholder and a member of the Global Association of Risk Professionals. Marcus is currently the Programming Vice Chair of the CFA Society Toronto Board and was formerly chair of the CFA Portfolio Management Committee.

Colette Tom, CFA - Chair
Colette Tom is a Director in the Commodities Division at RBC Capital Markets. Colette is responsible for building global business strategies, producing financial projections and managing performance. Previously, she was a Director in Finance assuming a business advisory role that supported multiple RBC Capital Markets business units.  Prior to this role, Colette was part of the Finance Management Development Program which is a two year global leadership rotational program within RBC. She began her career as a business analyst at RBC Wealth Management.

Colette is a Chartered Financial Analyst and has a MBA in Investment Management from the Goodman Institute at Concordia University.

Lee McNab, CFA - Vice Chair
Lee McNab is an Associate in Counterparty Credit Risk with TD Securities. Lee is responsible for ensuring the Investment Dealer's trading desks are adhering to approved credit policy guidelines. Previously, Lee spent four years in TD Waterhouse wealth management, executing equity and equity option trades, as well as analyzing and researching equities in order to underwrite margin loans for high value clients. Lee has an Honors degree in Physics from the University of Toronto and earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 2012.  Lee joined the Continuing Education committee in 2013 and was appointed Vice Chair in 2015.

Sean Cleary, CFA - Senior Advisor
Sean Cleary is the BMO Professor of Finance and Director of the Master of Finance Program at Queen's School of Business, Queen's University. Sean holds a PhD in finance from the University of Toronto, an MBA and is a CFA charterholder. He is a former member of the board of directors for CFA Society Toronto and past president of CFA Society Atlantic Canada. 
He has published research articles in leading finance journals with his publications having been cited over 1,400 times. He regularly reviews for many top finance journals; research grants, tenure and promotion applications at other universities; and, has served as an external assessor for PhD students.

Ankit Arora, CFA - Chair
Ankit Arora is an Associate Director at RBC where he finances strategic and sponsor driven leveraged transactions including acquisition finance, LBO's, and debt/equity bridges, in the Healthcare, Consumer, and Chemicals sectors.  He is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA) and CFA Charterholder with undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Waterloo.


Chris Sheridan, CFA - Chair
Chris Sheridan has over 15 years of experience in the financial services industry. Most recently he was a Senior Vice President in Institutional Sales for a Canadian exchange-traded funds provider. Previously, Chris provided equity sales coverage to institutional money managers for a Canadian bank-owned investment dealer. Chris holds a BA in psychology from Western University, an MBA from the Schulich School of Business, York University, and earned his CFA charter in 2002. Chris joined the equity programming committee in 2012 and was appointed Chair in 2015.

Olesya Zhovtanetska, CFA - Chair
Olesya Zhovtanetska is a Senior Director in Public Fixed Income at Sun Life Financial. Olesya is a member of the credit research team with coverage responsibility for the bank, asset management and transportation sectors. She has over 14 years of experience in financial services that includes roles in audit and investments with Sun Life and Deloitte. Olesya has BSc and MAcc degrees from University of South Carolina, holds Canadian and US accounting designations and is a CFA charterholder. Olesya joined CFA Society Toronto's Fixed Income Committee in 2012 and was appointed Vice-Chair in August 2013

David Matheson, CFA - Vice Chair
David Matheson is a Partner and Portfolio Manager at RP Investment Advisors with a focus on the North American credit markets and global interest rate markets. In his role he also oversees funding, liquidity, foreign exchange, collateral management and middle office infrastructure. Prior to joining RPIA in 2009 he was a research analyst and investment strategist with Scotia Capital Inc. (now Scotiabank Global Banking and Capital Markets). Mr. Matheson is a CFA charterholder, holds a MBA from the Schulich School of Business and a BA from the University of Toronto.

Letty Dewar, CFA - Chair
Letty Dewar served as chief operations officer for the Signature Global Advisors Group at CI Investments Inc. until her semi-retirement in 2008. She was senior vice-president, compliance for CI Investments Inc. for seven years where she designed, developed, implemented and enforced policies and procedures, controls and monitoring tools and methodologies with the objective to mitigate risk and maximize efficiency. Letty received her MBA from York University and her B.Comm. from the University of Toronto. She has been a CFA charterholder since1993.  Letty was appointed Vice-Chair of CFA Society Toronto’s Portfolio Management Committee in 2012 and Chair in 2014. Letty has been a volunteer on the committee since 2009. 

Grace Yu, CFA - Vice Chair
Originally from Hangzhou China, Grace currently works at PIMCO's Toronto office focusing on institutional consultant relations. Previously, Grace worked at Fidelity Investments Canada in the area of product management for both retail and institutional business. She began her finance career at Halifax Regional Municipality Pension Plan assisting the CEO managing their investment managers. Grace became vice-chair of the Portfolio Management Committee in September, 2014. 

Bruce Grantier, CFA - Senior Advisor
Bruce J. Grantier retired in 2008 after 16 years at Scotiabank, where he was managing director, pension assets. Previously he was chief strategist and head of fixed-income for Scotia Investment Management Ltd.  Bruce has written articles and reviews for industry publications including: Journal of Investment Management, Financial Analysts Journal, Canadian Investment Review and Benefits and Pension Monitor and publishes investment literature research reviews online through InvestorLit. He earned his BASc. in industrial engineering at the University of Toronto, MBA at York University and is a CAIA and CFA charterholder. Bruce is an active volunteer and board member for several industry associations, is a member of the Canadian Institute of Corporate Directors and joined CFA Society Toronto’s Portfolio Management committee in 2009.

Keith Pangretitsch, CFA - Chair
Keith Pangretitsch is Managing Director, Canada – Private Clients for Russell Investments Canada Limited. In this role Keith is responsible for the sales and marketing teams within Russell Canada.  Keith is also a member of Russell Canada’s Executive team which provides direction for Russell’s overall Canadian business. Keith has been in the financial services sector since 1993 and joined the Russell Investment Group in 1998.  Keith is an active member of the CFA Society Toronto where he chairs the Private Client Committee.  He is also a contributing author to and other publications on the topic of practice management and investing. Keith moved to the asset management industry in 1994 working with leading global and Canadian investment managers.

Zubair Ladak, CFA - Vice Chair
Zubair Ladak is the Senior Portfolio Construction Analyst at RBC PH&N Investment Counsel. In this role, he works closely with Investment Counsellors providing Private Client Portfolio Construction support. Prior to joining RBC, Zubair’s roles included managing discretionary portfolios for high net worth clients at Scotia Asset Management and Financial Markets Analysis (economics and fixed income) at both Scotia Capital and TD Securities. Zubair joined the Private Client Committee in 2013 and was appointed Vice Chair in 2015. Zubair is a CFA charterholder and holds a B.Sc. and M.A. degree from the University of British Columbia.

Margaret Franklin, CFA - Senior Advisor
Margaret Franklin is the President of Marret Private Wealth Inc., a division of Marret Asset Management. In 2010, Margaret was named one of Canada’s Most Powerful Women Top 100 by Women’s Executive Network (WXN). She has over 20 years of institutional and private client investment management experience.  Margaret has worked at Barclays Global Investors, State Street Global Advisors as well as Mercers in senior positions.  In 2002, Margaret moved from the institutional side of the business to work with private clients. Ms. Franklin is a CFA charterholder and former Chairman of the board of governors for the global CFA Institute. She is also the past president of CFA Society Toronto. Margaret holds a BA in Economics from McMaster University and is currently a regular speaker to media and at conferences covering topics of investing, behavioral finance and private wealth.

Catherine Ann Marshall, CFA - Chair
Catherine Marshall is an Investment Consultant with extensive experience helping managers build global Alternative Asset businesses. She has extensive investment experience that is relevant to the committee’s mandate including managing securities and direct private investments, product development, portfolio construction, marketing and client service. She has held progressively senior roles at the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, LaSalle Investment Management and the British Columbia Investment Management Corporation.  Catherine has written for Benefit


Pensions Monitor, the Real Estate Forum Magazine, Investment and Pensions and The Analyst.  She is a member of RealPAC’s Research and Infrastructure Committees and has won a NAIOP’s Real Estate Excellence Award.  She holds an MA in Economics and Finance focused on commodities. Catherine joined CFA Society Toronto’s Risk Management and Alternative Investments committee in 2012 and was appointed Chair in 2015.

Sadiq Alladina, CFA - Vice Chair
Sadiq Alladina is the Manager of Development Analysis at 20 Vic Management, a full-service real estate management firm. In his role, Sadiq is part of a team that advises pension funds, real estate private equity firms and other clients on development opportunities. Prior to joining 20 Vic, Sadiq was a Senior Financial Analyst at LaSalle Investment Management. Sadiq has written for FDI Magazine, Benefits Canada and The Analyst. Sadiq holds a BA in Economics and Political Science from the University of British Columbia, and he is a CFA Charterholder. He is also a Chartered Property Finance and Investment Surveyor and a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. Sadiq joined CFA Society Toronto’s Risk Management and Alternative Investments committee in 2012 and was appointed Vice Chair in 2015.

Anna Castro, CFA - Chair
Anna Castro is Vice President, Portfolio Management & Research in TD Asset Management. She supports the Target Return mandates through fundamental analysis and portfolio management responsibilities. Previously, Anna worked on the Core Canadian Equity, Value and Hedge Fund mandates. She was also the lead equity analyst on the Consumer, Industrials and Real Estate sectors and assisted with covering Banks. She has experience in both equity and fixed investments analysis, as well as in risk management, product and business development. Anna earned her MBA from the Rotman School of Management and is a CFA charterholder. Anna was appointed Vice-Chair of the Career Management Committee in 2012 for its inaugural year.

Belinda Labatt - Vice Chair
Belinda is President and Founder of The Capital Lab Inc. since 2007, The Capital Lab has provided extensive advisory work to +20 international companies with market capitalizations ranging from $10 million to $3 billion.  She has a successful track record of transitiioning CEOs into a capital markeds frole within the mining sector.  Belinda was voted IR professional of the year by the Canadian Investor Relations Institute in 2014.

Belinda joined Mandalay Resources, as Head of Stakeholder Engagement and Corporate Affairs in January, 2015.  Mandalay is an acquisitive, dividend-paying, global producer of gold, silver and antimony.

She graduated from the Rotman School of Management (MBA) in 2001 and was awarded her Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) in 2004.

Nino Boezio, CFA - Chair
Nino Boezio is Vice President, Portfolio Strategy and Investment Consulting, at Segal Rogerscasey Canada. With over 25 years of industry experience, he has worked for two major Canadian banks in wealth management, and for several financial service firms specializing in corporate pension plan and investment consulting. He is also a frequent writer and editor for Risks & Rewards, the investment section publication of the Society of Actuaries.
Nino holds a degree in Mathematics from York University and holds Canadian and U.S. actuarial designations and earned his charter in 1993. He became a member of the Private Client Committee and External Relations & Advocacy Committee in 2006 and was appointed Vice-Chair of the latter in 2013.

Parham Nasseri, CFA - Vice Chair
Parham Nasseri, CFA is Manager of Investment Analysis at the Ombudsman for Banking Services and Investments. OBSI is Canada’s trusted and independent service for Banking and Investment disputes. With over nine years of experience, Parham leads an energetic group of analysts in portfolio due diligence, regulatory and risk management matters relating to capital markets, and Damage Valuation reports. In previous roles, he has worked at TD Bank Financial Group and taught at George Brown College. Parham was awarded the CFA charter in 2013 and in 2008 he earned a Finance degree from the Ted Rogers School of Management. Parham is an active member of CFA Society Toronto and was appointed Vice Chair of the External Relations & Advocacy Committee in 2014.


Craig Geoffrey, CFA - Chair
Craig Geoffrey is a Lecturer of applied finance and investments at the University of Waterloo.  In 2007 Craig co-founded Montrose Hammond & Co.  During his career he has worked at progressively senior roles at CDIC and National Bank Financial.  Craig engages in consulting and public speaking, and also volunteers with CESO. He holds an MBA from the Rotman School of Management, a BA (Hons) in economics from Queen’s University, is researching market microstructure in a doctoral programme at the Manchester Business School earned his CFA charter in 2005.  Craig joined the Kitchener Waterloo committee in 2014 and was appointed Vice-Chair in 2014.

Noam Silberstein, CFA - Chair
Noam Silberstein is a Managing Director in the Investment Banking group at National Bank Financial, where he is part of the Diversified Industries team with responsibility for financings and M&A advisory in the agri-business, industrials, and technology sectors. Noam has over a decade of investment banking experience and was most recently at Wellington West, prior to the firm’s acquisition by National Bank. Noam has a B.Comm. from McGill University and earned his CFA charter in 2006. He speaks English, Spanish, French and Portuguese and serves on the board of directors of the Canadian Council for the Americas. Noam joined CFA Society Toronto’s Mentorship Committee in 2009 and was appointed Vice-Chair in July 2012.

Raj Arora, CFA - Vice Chair
Rajeev Arora, CPA (CMA), CFA has over 15 years of experience in financial markets, currently serving as Senior Manager, Market Risk at HSBC where he is responsible for Governance and Volcker.  Rajeev is actively involved in the community, serving on the Investment Committee, Finance Committee and Board of Directors for the Women's Musical Club of Toronto Foundation.  He is also the Vice-Chair of the CFA Society Toronto Awards & University Relations Committee and has been a member of the committee since 2007.  He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Toronto and has been a CFA charterholder since 2006.


Pamela Steer, CPA, CA, CFA - Chair
Pamela Steer is the Acting CFO for the WSIB.  Pamela has over 15 years of senior management experience.  Her most recent role before joining the WSIB was as Cheif Operating Officer of Wonga Canada.  Prior to Wonga, she was CFO at Fusenet, and vice president of Finance at Redknee Solutions Inc.  Pamela is also active in the not-for-profit space, where she is currently Secretary/Treasurer and Chair of the governance and Nominating Committee for the Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors in addition to her role on the Finance Committee of CFA Society Toronto.  Pamela has a Master Accounting degree, is accredited as a Chartered Accountant (CPA, CA) and a Chartered Financial Analyst.  She recently completed the Rotman International Centre for Pension Management's Board Effectiveness Program and the Rotman Institute of Corporate Directors NFP Governance Essentials Program.

Jennifer Schillaci, CFA - Chair
Jennifer Schillaci is Managing Director and Senior Portfolio Manager, with Manulife Real Estate.  Jennifer is responsible for the ongoing investment strategy, including acquisitions, dispositions and financing, for Manulife Real Estate’s fund offerings in Canada. Prior to her current role, she held various investment positions across several asset classes within Manulife.  Jennifer joined Manulife in 2003 as part of a two-year investment analyst rotation program and was promoted to her current role in March 2013.  She has a B.Comm (Honours) from University of Toronto and earned her chartered financial analyst designation in 2006.  Jennifer joined CFA Society Toronto’s membership committee in 2008 and was appointed Chair in 2014.   

Brian Madden, CFP, CFA - Vice-Chair
Brian Madden serves as Vice President & Portfolio Manager with AGF Investments where he manages several balanced funds and segregated funds.  Before joining AGF, Brian co-founded and was a portfolio manager with STYLUS Asset Management. With over 17 years in the industry Brian began his career with a boutique brokerage firm and later joined one of Canada's leading independent equity research firms, where he developed expertise in fundamental and quantitative analysis.  He has a BComm from the University of Toronto and earned his CFA charter in 2000. Brian joined CFA Society Toronto’s Membership Committee in 2008 and was appointed Vice-Chair in 2013.

John Ewing - Chair
John Ewing is Co-Founder of Ewing Morris & Co. Investment Partners Ltd.  John is responsible for portfolio management and investment research.  Prior to co-founding Ewing Morris, he was vice president and director of research at Burgundy Asset Management. He graduated with distinction from the University of Guelph in 2005 with a B.Sc. in Engineering degree and earned his chartered financial analyst designation in 2011.  John joined CFA Society Toronto’s mentorship committee in 2008 and was appointed chair in 2014. 

Michael Schankula, CFA - Vice-Chair
Mike Schankula is a Senior Manager with the Bank of Nova Scotia.  As part of BNS’ restructuring and workout group, Mike is responsible for managing and structuring a portfolio of higher risk corporate and commercial borrowing accounts.  Prior to joining BNS, Mike was a restructuring and turnaround consultant with KPMG. He graduated with from the Wilfrid Laurier University in 2006 with an MBA and earned his chartered financial analyst designation in 2010.  Mike joined CFA Society Toronto’s Mentorship Committee in 2013 and was appointed vice-chair in 2015.
